“Let’s just say, for the sake of argument, that there are people on other planets and that all of a sudden you’re dropped there, with no idea how these people live their lives, how their society works,” he blurted. “I’m this alien. I’m the man pretending he knows what the hell is going on around him when, in fact, he’s clueless.”
Mr. Deskovic:
A grave injustice was done to you. No one should be punished for something they did not do. But you are alive, sir. In my country, if you were to be convicted of murder, you would never be free again. We have the death penalty, you see.
I am not trying to belittle your suffering. I am not saying that you aren't in a very new, very different environment. It may be difficult to adjust.
But the fact is, sir, that no one knows what th hell is going on. That might just help you out. Fake it. Everyone else is. Just as long as you admit to yourself that you're not 100% sure, because lying to yourself is not a good idea - put up a good front and just do your best. That's what everyone does.
Eve.
