Well, Law Camp wasn't bad. They fed and housed us really well. I mean REALLY. There was some kind of meal every two - three hours....no wonder I gained weight. :s like a kilo. So got to start running...
I just didn't like being forced into it. Like for convocation. They'll do their best to pressure you into doing things their way...no compromises. Like by saying, "You have to go in its comPULsory. You can leave early if you Have to but we're seated right in front and there's a Looooong walk out." no matter what you ask. Like "can i sit in back?" or "what's my alternative?" or "what's the punishment?" haha I think she was shocked that I got pissed off enough after hearing that five times to just walk off. I didn't look back and I don't care wht the punishment is. They can't expel EVERYONE who walked off. And I did exhaust my legal channels.
The reason I got so pissed wasn't just the ridiculous number of compulsory events that SMU has. That's only mildly pissy. It's their inflexible attitude towards these events. They've got people with a dangerous follower mentality right now (my observation from the many many manyyyy debriefs in our camps). Many people had the opinion that you should just sacrifice for the team and do what you were told. Not looking at the team objective and deciding if it jibed with you as an individual.
I mean, we should all work together to complete a task, yes. We all need each other to some extent. But hell, you should at least be familiar with the objective, with the ideal! What are you sacrificing FOR?
It's scary because these are the people I'm going to work with and the fact is, no one is going to excuse you your actions if you say - I was doing it for the team. (eg Suicide bombers, robbers, TT Durai) You are still responsible. Blindly following means you are taking on potentially huge responsibility and you'd better know what it's for. Not everyone is nice and not everything is safe.
Sigh.
Well, bright side is, they hopefully are as hardworking and dedicated for group projects as they were for the games.
Eve.
