You don't stop laughing because you grow old. You grow old because you stop laughing.

Michael PritchardWhy are we so struck by the expressions of joy or sadness? Often, if a person we just meet is smiling, that is the first thing we notice, not the colour of his eyes or anything. If she cries, we worry that she's depressive, or troubled - that is what forms our basis for judgement. It's weird though. If he always smiles, you want to know why he's smiling, after a while. You wonder what he sees. You wonder if he's that way with you (you're special!) or if he's always that way.
Strange.
